Two housing loans were passed during the NED, Inc. meeting — both direct homebuyer assistance loans.

The first loan was for $19,400 for a house located in Hartington. The funding for the loan will be provided by NED, Inc’s regional program and will be a 0% deferred interest loan due upon transfer of title.

The second direct homebuyer assistance loan was for $30,000 for a home located in Columbus. This will be funded by the City of Columbus Direct Homebuyer Assistance program. It is a 0% deferred interest loan due upon transfer of title.

Also during the meeting, the 2021-2022 budget was approved. Board member Shannon Stuchlik, Midwest Bank of Pierce, was appointed to a second term that will end on June 30, 2024. Officers were also elected to the board for 2021-2022. They are: President, Brad Albers, business owner; Vice President, Shannon Stuchlik; and Secretary/Treasurer, Jerry Engdahl, Platte County.

During the NENEDD Council of Officials Annual meeting, two business loans were approved.

The first was an Economic Development Administration (EDA) CARES Act loan in the amount of $32,500 for Martin House of Donuts, LLC, d/b/a Daylight Donuts in Columbus. John Martin and Jason Gaver plan to purchase Daylight Donuts at 1266 27th Ave. The business opened in 1975 and offers daily fried donuts of all varieties, as well as beverages.

The second business loan was for $70,000 to Trent Thompson, d/b/a Pierce Locker in Pierce. Trent is planning to purchase Pierce Locker, where he has worked part-time for the past 10 years. Pierce Locker is known for its Wragge Dogs, but also sells hamburger, ribeyes, cheese, polish dogs, brats, beef sticks and summer sausage.

Following the loan approvals, the 2021-2022 NENEDD budget was approved. Board member Loren Kucera was appointed to his second term that will end on June 30, 2024. Officers were also elected during the meeting. They are: Chairwoman, Judy Mutzenberger, Cuming County; Vice Chairman, Charlie Bahr, City of Columbus; and Secretary/Treasurer, Gary Jackson, City of Norfolk.

Outgoing board member Dan Kathol, Hartington Community Development Corporation, was also presented with a certificate for his service on the board and to Northeast Nebraska. Kathol served on the board from 2015-2021, and was the vice chairman from 2020-2021.

The NED, Inc. and NENEDD Board of Directors meetings are set for Wednesday, July 28, 2021. The NED, Inc. meeting will start at 7 p.m. and NENEDD at 7:15 p.m., or following the NED, Inc. meeting.
